MBA has become a specialised degree that extends to practically every profession. But unlike in finance and marketing, managing businesses based on other professions requires a unique set of skills, training and understanding. Some fields require dedicated learning and the ability to handle professions like law, healthcare, and so on. MBA’s managing these professions need to have domain knowledge or a rudimentary understanding of the subject. This raises questions about how traditional MBA curricula must evolve to bridge the gap between managerial expertise and professional domain knowledge. As organisations become increasingly interdisciplinary, the ability of managers to effectively collaborate with, evaluate, and lead highly specialised professionals has become a critical leadership competency. How should courses be structured, and how should MBA professionals be trained for a career in niche management?

FOR YEARS, STUDENTS HAVE DEMANDED MORE BOOKS, INCREASED SEATING CAPACITY AND EXTENDED LIBRARY HOURS; INSTEAD, THE UNION SAID, THE ADMINISTRATION CHOSE TO INVEST THE LIMITED RESOURCES IN SURVEILLANCE INFRASTRUCTURE Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) in a statement accused the university administration of targeting student representatives after Delhi Police served enquiry notices to current and former union office bearers over protests against surveillance measures in the university library. According to an official statement, the notices followed an FIR lodged by the JNU administration against JNUSU president Aditi Mishra, vice president Gopika, general secretary Sunil, joint secretary Danish and former JNUSU president Nitish Kumar.  Biometric systems at JNU library draw ire of students [https://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/Delhi/biometric-systems-at-jnu-library-draw-ire-of-students/article69966153.ece] Speaking to PTI, Ms. Mishra said that JNUSU office bearers have been called to the police station on Saturday (January 3, 2025). "JNUSU office bearers and former JNU president have been called to the police station for questioning," Ms. Mishra said. Advertisement The statement read that enquiry notices have now been served by Delhi Police for opposing the installation of facial recognition cameras and magnetic entry gates at the B R Ambedkar Central Library. The union alleged that the move was intended to silence student voices and intimidate activists. It further read that the students have long raised concerns over what they describe as the "disastrous condition" of the central library, alleging fund cuts and administrative neglect. For years, they have demanded more books, increased seating capacity and extended library hours. Instead, the union said, the administration chose to invest the limited resources in surveillance infrastructure, which students argue restricts movement and infringes on privacy, the statement said. According to JNUSU, the magnetic gates were first installed in August last year without consultation. Large-scale protests led by the then JNUSU president, vice president, general secretary and joint secretary forced the administration to remove the gates. Library officials had subsequently assured students that any future decision would be taken by an independent committee with students' representation. The union claimed that the administration went back on this assurance by reinstalling the gates during the JNUSU elections in November 2025, when much of the student community was preoccupied with the poll process. The newly elected union protested the move, following which, JNUSU alleged, the administration issued proctorial notices and filed police complaints. JNUSU condemned what it described as a "dastardly attack" and demanded the immediate withdrawal of all cases against the student leaders. AS SRCC CELEBRATES 100 YEARS OF SHAPING COMMERCE EDUCATION IN THE COUNTRY, WITH A LEGACY OF RENOWNED ALUMNI AND A FOCUS ON INNOVATION, THE COLLEGE IS NOW EMBRACING AI AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP AS IT LOOKS TO THE FUTURE – FROM ITS HUMBLE BEGINNINGS IN 1926 TO BECOMING ONE OF DELHI UNIVERSITY'S TOP INSTITUTIONS. Delhi University’s Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) on Friday turned a page in history as it marked the beginning of its centenary celebrations with a curtain-raiser ceremony at the North Campus. A hundred years ago, SRCC did not begin with imposing red-brick buildings or packed lecture halls. It started modestly, in a bungalow in Daryaganj, with just 12 students and four teachers. The year was 1926 — a time when commerce education was still an unfamiliar idea in North India, and the colonial curriculum left little room for practical, profession-oriented learning. The seed, however, had been sown earlier. In 1920, industrialist Sir Shri Ram set up the Commercial Education Trust, driven by a belief that education in trade and economics could play a role in building economic self-reliance. Along with his brother-in-law Lala Sher Singh, his friend Lala Diwan Chand, and other associates, he imagined an institution that would teach commerce not merely as theory, but as a living discipline[https://api.thelocalmirror.in/uploads/1767519306855.avif] TWO UNDERGRADUATE COURSES: THEN AND NOW From its early years, SRCC focused on a limited set of academic offerings. At the undergraduate level, it has traditionally offered two programmes — BCom (Honours) and BA (Honours) Economics — a structure that continues to this day. According to the college, the institution — then known as the Commercial College — received affiliation with the University of Delhi in 1926 and was upgraded to a degree college in 1932, when it began awarding the BA (Pass) degree in the Commerce Group. Academic diversification within the same discipline followed in phases. The BA (Hons) (Commerce Group) degree was introduced in 1943.

New record of international higher education students in Germany
Updated: 9 Jan 2026, 9:22 PMAnamul Islam
The number of international students at German universities reached a record high at the start of the 2023/23 academic year, according to data released by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), driven by growth from India in particular which became the top source country. In total, there were 367,578 international students at German universities in the winter 2022/23 academic semester, as detailed by DAAD in the latest Wissenschaft weltoffen report [https://www.wissenschaft-weltoffen.de/content/uploads/2023/09/wiwe_2023_web_de.pdf], a 5.2 per cent increase compared with 349,438 in the winter semester of 2021/22. Source markets: A large factor in the growth was India, which increased by 26 per cent year-on-year to become the top source country with 42,578 students – surpassing China (39,137 students), which had been the largest supplier of international students to Germany for the previous 20 years. Across the last five years, India has increased by 146 per cent – the largest growth rate of all of the top 15 source markets in that time – while China has been stagnant at only six per cent growth in that time. In 2022/23, the third largest source country was Syria (15,563 students), followed by Austria (14,762) and Turkey (14,732). Background: Despite the free tuition model, Germany has accounted for between three and seven per cent of higher education bookings for agents in StudyTravel Magazine’s annual Global Agency Surveys [https://studytravel.network/magazine/articles?subTypeId=27&statsOnly=1], with agents often using a counselling fee model rather than commission from partner clients. President of DAAD [https://www.daad.de/en/], Professor Dr. Joybrato Mukherjee said, “German universities and research institutions continue to enjoy great international popularity. In particular, the high quality of academic education, the freedom from fees and the good career opportunities for university graduates on the German labour market have supported the Federal Republic's rise to the top three most popular countries to study. German universities are demonstrably extremely attractive for international students and doctoral candidates, and this is an enormous lever for countering the dramatic shortage of skilled workers.”
